Exclamation No icons or start bar after startup?? please help!

Hi

I was trying to do something and i thought i needed to delete downloaded security and XP updates. I run Windows XP Home.

I uninstalled a few, went to restart and it got as far as the background picture and came up with an error message saying:
Windows Explorer
Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs your attention.

Leaving me with two options to either debug or close. Both of those just leave me with my background picture with NO icons or Start button or menu.

I can use CTRL+ALT DEL but that is all. Which does mean i can use the RUN command.

Please could anyone help or tell me which file to run or what to do!!

Very much gratefull in advanced!

Try to run System File Checker go to Run > type "sfc /scannow" ( without the quotes and note the space after sfc ) have your Win CD available in case sfc needs to repair or replace damaged files.

Hope this helps
