PC to PC Question

I have a new computer and I want to transfer some of the files from my old computer to the new one. So far I have:

Found the communications program on the new computer (Win XP) and set it up to use a Com1 to Com1 connection. Null Modem.

Found the communications program on the old computer (Win 98) and set it up accordingly.

I have been able to establish a PC to PC connection. Both computers recognise the connection. Old computer is the host.

I set the folder (with the files I want to transfer) on my old computer to "share".

Next step, I think, is to send the files over to the new computer.

I have tried using windows explorer on my new computer to "see" the files on my old computer. Looked in shared files on the new computer also.

I think I am missing something simple here, but I am stumped. Any advice would be appreciated.
