CD Drive Icon has dissapeared off My Computer

Hi, my friend's PC has a problem. For no reasonl, he can not see the CD Drive (Drive E:\) on "My Computer". He can see the Floppy Dis Drive, etc, but not the CD Drive.

Any idea? I told im to make a shortcut to E:\ but it says that's not a valid location.
He's using XP Home.

Can he use the drive at all?
All of a sudden my cd/rw drive has dissappeared and will not work at all. I am currently trying to find drivers to re-install them and so that would be my advice to you.
If problem gets solved, please post what resolved it...

To Mo go to device manager and uninstall the the CD ROM drive (it's possible that it will have a yellow or red marker next to it). Re-boot and the PnP should find it and restore it.

Phil you can try the same but you may need the drivers as it is a cd-rw. If you get the option to use the existing drivers use them and you should be good to go.
