install 98 over xp?

I want to install win98 over winxp pro.
The reason is I have programs which I love that will not run with xp. I have my hard drive split into partitions. If I make a seperate fat32 partition how do I install win98 on it. If I put the floppy in it always wants to format the whole of my drive. Is it possible? If anyone knows how to do this without it wiping the whole of my hard drive could they explain in EASY steps? It will even wipe ntfs partitions. I know that I could do it the other way round with ease but I have lots of files that I do not want deleted. Also if it can be done will I get a choice of wich to boot to when I switch my comp on.....

Thankyou, Artyboy

There is an option in XP to run programs as different OS as in 98,2000, & me. Just got home from work. I will try to find it for you.

You can set up a dual boot scenario pretty easily with Partition Magic 8.0 from PowerQuest. It's been awhile since I've done it, but if I remember correctly -- Windows 98 has to be installed first, and XP second. I'm not positive about that though...

P.M. also includes a program called Boot Magic, which will give you a menu each time you boot to select which OS/partition you want to go into.
