Angry Unable to open information file netoc.inf.

After doing an upgrade from the WindowsUpdate website, I have been having serious problems.

My internet connection sharing (although says it is started) is not working. And when I go to the Add/Remove Windows Components menu in Add/Remove Programs, I get the message:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Setup was unable to open information file netoc.inf.

Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x2 at line 2011777033.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Internet connection sharing, and the Add/Remove thing were working before the upgrades. I've tried a system restore, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

After finding the netoc.inf file from a friends computer, I am not able to go into the Add/Remove Components.

However, Internet Connection Sharing is still dead....

netoc.inf

Hi,

It's a bit late to answer this, but I have found a solution. I got the same error message and could find no reference to it apart from complaints and pleas what to do.

I searched the registry for netOC=netoc.dll,OCSetUpProc,netoc,inf,,7 and found
Symantec netOC=netoc.dll,OCSetUpProc,netoc,inf,,7 . I backed up the registry and deleted, re-found the Add'remove for Windows Components. I'm posting this here and in CNet, just in case any one else has the same seemingly insoluable problem.

Unhappy Problem with NETOC=Netoc.dll

I am getting the error message Set up unable to open info file netoc.if The specific error code is 0x2 @ line 2088999592. This does not make sense to me but I finally found your solution but don't know how to make these changes with any confidence in my ability to not make the problem worse. I learn based on the problem of the "week". Can someone help me back up the registry on my laptop and detect, and refind the Add'remove for Windows components? TX

I have ACT database manager - 2007 and I believe that it was the cause of my problem.
