removing xp from disk

My hard drive on my ACER laptop died, so i got a similar second hand one (with Windows XP on it). After fixing, the BIOS did not recognise the new disk. I booted with DOS (Floppy) and with dir i could see everything. I tought on formating but i could not ??? So, i where looking for some havy arms and used fdisk. I renewed the partition. However, the drive is now 2 Gig smaller and the BIOS still can not see the disk. Under DOS still visible.
I am really suspecting XP.

Has there anyone a guess how to get this work???

Send a message via AIM to procomtech
at the dos prompt: fdisk /mbr

(/mbr indicates "master boot record")

then run fdisk again. view part. information, option 4 I believe, then delete all partitions listed. once this is done, reboot, format, install your OS....
