System Freeze up -Need help-

Hello people,

Every time i run windows explorer my computer totaly freezes up, and locks down at 100% cpu usege.! So every time i have to end explorer.exe in task manager. then my comp usege goes back to 15% .

I didnt install anything new onto my comp that would screw my comp up or make any changes to my sys settings.! My norton anti-virus shuts down aswell. So i dont know whats going on .

Im running Windows XP Pro,
Norton Anti-Virus 2004
Cpu speed 700 mhz

Firstly do a bit of basic housekeeping ...

Check your system for malicious code using an up to date Anti Virus program.

Check your system for spyware and adware using a checker such as Spybot and Adaware.

Remove unwanted files and applications by running Disk Cleanup.

Check your Hard Disk for errors using Check Disk.

Defrag your Hard Drive.

Download and install the latest drivers for your system video and sound cards.

CPU?
RAM?
Hard Drive?
Optical Drive(s)?
Graphic Card?
Sound Card?

Looking at your CPU I think you may be at the lower end of the spec for running XP!
