hard time with software installation

Hi,
I got an original CD of some software along with its Serial Number. Once the computer was done with the installation I typed in the Serial Number, following up its demands. But as I pressed enter the pc had shouted at me that I don't have an appropriate SN to this specific pc (while it shows also some 'pc code' number '30273'). I tried some arbitrary SN just to see if the same error message is given also to a wrong SN input. It comes out that I have a valid SN and what is more the program can't validate my ID through the internet because it is not connected (firewall).

Is it possible that the installation cd keeps information about previous installations (read only cd)

Does anybody encounter in such protection, if so, how does it works?

Some applications need a Serial Number that is matched to a specific machine.

Your problem sounds similar to this, you have possibly got the SN for a different machine.

You need to talk to the product vendors.
