Problem with (*.ini) files

i formatted my hard disk and reinstalled windows xp. but now i'm facing a problem with the text files especially the files that have the *.ini format. some of their texts r unreadable which in turns make problems to the programs they are used by.

i dunno even how to diagnose the problem !! is it because i don't have that particular font ...but if this true, why windows xp hasn't installed that font then...since it's used by the system

besides, when i checked a windows standard fonts list and compared it to mine, i found that the fonts are complete...there's no missing windows default font. Also, i did download all the latest updates of windows xp but no luck

It looks like you are associating the ini file with some other app that does not recognize the format can you confirm? If so you can solve the problem by associating the file to wordpad or notepad rather. Just right click the file and goto change and you will figure the rest out. Hope this helps.

the file is associated to notpad. and when i tried to associate it to wordpad, i got the same result ...no change !!!

and yeah...i should have told u this in the first place...i still didn't install Office XP. Does this have anything to do with my problem??

also, some words in this (ini) file can be read but it's not the case for the rest.

last thing, does this problem of ini files affect the programs that use them?? and do u think reinstalling Windows XP will solve the problem?? though win XP is already fresh but maybe cuz i didn't choose additional languages or even fonts when i was prompted to choose one in addition to the default language which is English.
