Windows Update Problem

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 with Windows XP Pro. Recently I downloaded the latest windows updates from Microsoft website. Now I am getting frequent pop ads from Microsoft, E-Bay etc. I tried using the shareware programs spybot and ad-aware and they temporarily get rid of some of the ads and then they reappear. What is my problem? How do I get rid of the ads? If the windows update is the problem, how do you uninstall the last update that i made to my computer?

Windows update would definitely not have caused more pop-up ads on your computer. Are you getting these ads only when you are browsing the internet, or even when all programs are closed>

The only thing that I can think of that may help you is ZoneAlarm Pro. That's what I'm using and it has an 'Ad Blocking' function that works quite well at stopping pop-ups. There are many other useful ad/pop-up blocking programs but I'm not really familiar with any others. ZA is all I have needed so far.

I don't think it would be the update that caused the targeted advertising, but I'm not too sure - I'm only starting out with this stuff

Hope this helps some.

Go into Services. Start\Control Panel\Performance and Maintainence\Administrative Tools\Services. Scroll down to Messenger and double click on it. Click Stop then click Apply Where it says Automatic click on the down arrow button highlight disable click Apply and then click OK. This Messenger has nothing to do with Windows Messenger. The Messenger Service you are diabling is used for sending messages between clients and servers. Hope this helps.
