newbie - user acess problem

Couldnt login to xp so i had to reinstall a fresh copy.

Now have a bigger problem - cant retrieve files from my user
account I set up from the previous install.

I go to 'C:/Documents and Settings' and I can see the user name listed but it does not allow me access to the directory.

Is there anyway of accessing the files in this directory

Any help would hugely appreciated
