IE Parent / Child windows
(As I was typing this thread and trying to find as much detailed information as possible about the problem to convey, I solved the matter but decided to post it anyways for those who might encounter a similar problem)
I’ve recently had a problem with IE 6.0.2800. I usually listen to online radio which requires opening a separate link (child window) to allow Windows Media to stream the music. Up until recently I could always close the parent window (no need to have an extra window open) and would continue listening to the child window. Now when I close the parent window I get the “Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close …” Upon exiting the error message both parent and child windows would close. I was forced to have two separate browsers opened. It wasn’t a huge deal to have both windows open to stream but it’s annoying to have both open just to have one active.
To fix the problem was all too simple, which is why I couldn’t figure it out. I had been activating the child window before closing the parent window. I’ve found out that I must FIRST close the parent window. Only after closing the parent window can I initiate the stream from the child window and successfully listen to the stream from the child window alone. This appears to be a glitch installed from the newer updates from MS since I don’t have to do this with a similar system I also use. Whatever it takes, I guess.
