Desktop tab gone from display properties

For some reason the Desktop tab is missing from my display properties box. I want to change my wallpaper and I cant anymore. Anyone got a fix?

Oops forgot I am using XP pro

Did you add a new program or hardware?
If you added new software...try system recovery.

Are you able to get to the Desktop tab in Safe mode?

Well I think it was either a PC Gamer or Maximum PC disk I put in and looked at some of the wallpaper that was there. Then when I went to change it back to a different pic the tab was gone.

I am a network admin and we are having the same problem. Our group policy settings are set to show the desktop tab, but it is missing on our XP boxes, even to network admins and local admins. We have scoured the Microsoft site looking for a solution, to no avail. If anyone can figure this one out it would be appreciated.

Unpilot,

This one drove us nuts, but we have it solved now. I hope the cause is the same on yours. Open up your policy using the MMC and go to:
Administrative Templates>WindowsComponents>Windows Explorer and disable "Turn on Classic Shell" Now you should be able to see the tab.
