Windows Management Instrumentation is corrupt how do i fix it?
im running windows xp
alright so usually when im playing games i need to take off the windows Firewall
so i go into control panel, network connections, i go into my Rogers Properties and
click the advanced tab and usually i uncheck the firewall and play...
but when i did this same sequence today i got an error on the advanced tab and couldnt
take the firewall off or on, its off because i can play but i want it on when im
not gamingm because its prolly important
heres the error i get "Windows cannot display the properties of this connection.
The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) information might be corrupted. To
correct this, use System Restore to restore Windows to an earlier time (called a
restore point). System Restore is located in the System Tools folder in Accessories"
anyway i open up System Restore and i try and click dates but i have no previous
restore points!! am i screwed, what other options are there?

you really need to use a good firewall that is easier to configure than windows xp's. sygate and kerio make good free versions. i would scan for viruses first, then go to the cotrol panel, user accounts. see if there are any with strange names you didnt make, or were not there before. delete the account if one is there you dont know. use a online virus scan to make sure you are clean, on-board are easy to bypass these days.

I have had the same problem with WMI. I tried everything you could possibly imagine. The only way I was finally able to fix it was to do a repair install.
Repair Install Instructions
Before attemting that, try deleting the repository directory, then rebooting. XP will rebuild the repository. It didn't work for me, however it does work for some, so it may be worth trying.

I had the same issue and looked everywhere for a resolution. Ive found two issues. The event log service is not running. Once turned on WMI runs. If event log wont run a repair or reinstall is necessary. If event log is running the fix is rather simple. First be sure the windows management service is stopped. Open the command prompt and navigate to %systemroot%\system32\wbem\repository. Once in this folder del *.* and del FS. After a reboot the windows management is forced to create a new database clearing out the error.

Microsoft....
Just like MS to instruct you to reinstall windows instead of something simply deleting a folder...yeah, I always cut my steak with a chainsaw!
