New hard disk in XP Pro

My new (second/slave) hard disk is described, in WINXP Pro Disk Management, as a 'dynamic' disk compared to my existing HD which is refered to 'basic' disk. The layout is also different being described as 'simple' compared to 'partition' in the existing drive.

Are the above settings OK to be left as it is or something is not right? Whilst I do have some faint idea of dynamic and basic disk, what does 'simple' and 'partition' means in the layout type?
