Unhappy File and printer sharing

Hopefully someone may be offer some advice - I'm tearing my hair out here....

My office network consists of three PC's.

PC 1 is connected to the internet by way of a Broadband connection and has a printer
connected.

PC 2 is connected to PC1 through a switch and has a printer connected.

PC 3(Laptop) connected to PC 1 through the same switch. All systems are running
XP.

Until yesterday everything was running fine, all three quite happily sharing files
and printers. PC's 1 & 2 were preinstalled with Norton Antivirus but the laptop
(PC 3) had nothing and so Mcafee internet security was installed which seems to be
the route of the problem. As of that point the laptop is unable to print or share
any files. I have since removed mcafee from the laptop and find that from PC's 1&2
we can access the shared files on PC 3 ok, but PC 3 has no access to the network
whatsoever and displays unable to connect when trying to print documents. It still
has access to the broadband connection though. I have run the network connection
wizard several times now and the laptop still fails to show any of the other PC's
in 'my network places' Short of recovering the laptop i don't know now how to enable
the laptop to 'see' the other pc's.

Someone please help!!!

it seems you are having the opposite problem to me, so if anyone can help with this or my other problem I think we would both be very grateful

dump the TCP Stack(remove the TCP/IP from the network binding all together, then go to Device Manager, click on View /Show Hidden Devices,,, it there is any mention of McAfee remove it, then right there disable the network card,, reboot the system / go to device manager and enable the network card,, by then TCP stack should reload,, one more reboot and you should be able to have your problem solved.

cheers

there is a program that does all of that for you.. search on google for winsockxpfix.exe it rebuilds the registry and files that have to do with networking. often when you uninstall zonealarm, mccafe internet secutiry or others like them they dont completely uninstall, making it impossible for you to share files and printers and sometimes cause other problems.if you cant find the file let me know ill send it to you. the file name may be decieving, thinking its only for xp, but ive tested it on win98, win98se, winme, and winxp
