Help! I have 2 computer problems!

Hi, i'm new and i need your help for something. I'm good at Windows problems and stuff but there's 2 glitches (problems) on my comp. First, when i open a folder it opens the search instead of the folder. How can i fix it??? Second, i can't change the folders and files icons. I tried it from folder options but it just dosen't work. They don't cahnge. Help me for both! Oh and can you tell me how to change the FOLDER icon as i can't change the icon. The most important is the search glitch.

I'm not too sure about your probs, (I'm new at this too) but for the other guys to help, you'll probably have to let them know what version of Windows you're using

P.S. Welcome!!

This problem occurs when you open the Edit File Type dialog box for the Drive or File Folder registered file types.

To resolve this problem, edit the registry to set the value data for the Default string value in the registry key to none.

Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

Locate and then click the Default value under the following keys in the registry if this problem occurs with folders:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

If this problem occurs with drives:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell

Click Modify on the Edit menu.

Type none in the Value data box, and then click OK.

Quit Registry Editor.

If you haven't gotten it fixed yet, for the Search problem, download folder_open.vbs from the Doug Knox site and run it. (I've used a lot of his scripts. All have been safe (virus free) and all have worked)

Not knowing what operating system, I'll guess it's XP. You should be able to change an individual's folder icon by right-clicking on the folder, going to the Customize tab and clicking on the Change Icon button.
