My Toshiba shuts down auto if I leave it for a few minutes, I just push the on button again. You didn't say how often and for how long you can stay on before it shuts down.

if you post the brand name and model number of your laptop will look it up, and see if this is a known issue and if there is a patch for it.

Yes, it just shut off, push the on button and see if it starts, the shut down is normal. You can change your settings, but don't have my laptop here with me, will post again if you need that info.

I would then start with a thorough cleaning job: ie
Lafasoft Adaware

Registry First Aid (be careful with this one, great but you have to know what to delete.

Spybot Search and Destroy
Nortons System Works (or something similar)
Defrag

Except for Norton's all above programs are free.

check your settings first that your computer is not going into "sleep" mode after 30 minutes, could be set to do this.
Also, I have deleted all Realplayer from my computers because of the problems that it caused me, and there are other similar programs to replace RealPlayer, have seen them on this forum somewhere.

Maybe it goes into some kinda hibernation?
Right click on the desktop go to properties --> screen saver and power settings, see if there is anything there that might cause it
