Unhappy browsing window freezes when attempting to browse hdd contents

Version of XP
- Win XP SP1

Hardware setup
- P4 1.6g 256 ram

What exactly happened leading up to the problem
- When I open a program and attempts to browse (eg. My Computer) the contents to open a file, the browsing window freezes

Exact error messages
-Nothing. It just freezes and then I have to close program and then click the "Don't send" thingy

Any antivirus, firewall software you are running
-Norton Antivirus 2003

I've tried scaning the disk for errors and checking for virus but no viruses found.

-when did this start, did you install or uninstall anything or add hardware?
-have you tried system restore to a point when it worked correctly?

If you're getting the dialog box with the "don't send" option, you should also see a line with the option to "to see the details click here" or something along those lines. If so, click where indicated and post the entire contents of the details window here.

Im not sure man I think I might have gotten the problem after installing XIII (a pc game)

Miz

Ok i clicked to view details for the error b4 clicking "Don't send" and it says

Error signature

szAppName : i_view32.exe szAppVer : 3.8.0.0
szModName : hungapp szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

Then the rest is just describing the reporting details to microsoft

if the game has on-line capabilities for anything, updates, online play, or even a spyware app it may have added something that is checking the net everytime you open the browser. first try a spyware scan if you have not already.

if this does not find a problem and fix you up, try uninstalling the game. if the problem still occurs use system restore to go back just before you installed it. if the game is the problem the web site for it may have a patch or if it is a older game that was designed for 98/me you might want to try compatibility mode.

have you tried the system restore? it could have corrupted something on install. being i can not look at the machine first hand anything beyond that i would sugest a repiar/install of xp.

i had some save points last year but i canot trace back to those dates. The scheduled save points left (end of Feb) r useless cause my pc have the error already.

U mean repair installation? Ive done that already too

Guess the final solution is to reformat hdd eh..

Is there anything in your event log about programs hanging or crashing at all?
I have had this problem and found after disabling some of the things at start up it has gone away.

The event log is in control panel > admin tools > event log ... you have 3 sections look at all of them around the time the computer last hung, send me a message with a few if you like and I'll have a look.

Also have you had a look at msconfig? Start > run > type 'msconfig' > startup tab
If you havent you may find there is more starting up than you thought, becareful what you remove and if you do remove something and it stops working go into safe mode and renable it.
