Can I install Win 95 on a system already running XP?

I have a Tosh portege 7000 CT laptop running off PII at 233MHz, 128MB SDRAM and running XP Pro - yes really! Ok, it was a mistake and the machine's running really slowly now.

I formatted the hdd before installing XP and now I can't install Win 95 back on top

Is there any way I can install another OS or uninstall XP or something?!! I just want to wipe my hard drive of XP and go back to a computer that jogs along at a reasonable pace rather than crawls.

I use XP Pro on my desktop and it works great.

Thanks for any and all help!

Dom

I am not sure why you would want to go back as far as 95 or why you do not get a new computer.

Xp will run on 128mb of ram but you should at least be running 256 if you are going to be running XP.

******Make sure you back up any files you want to save before you delete any partitions**********

Put in you Xp disk and boot from the disk. Run it as if you were going to do a fresh install (hit the anykey). Follow the direction and at some point you will be asked if you want to delete the partition. Choose yes and delete the partition.

Once you have done that switch to the 95 disk and shut the computer down (Do not move on until you shutdown).

Now start it up again and do a fresh install with the 95 disk.

***This may work with just using the win 95 disk. It has been so long since i installed with it.

He doesn't want XP on his machine, it's not up to the job!

I'm not sure just 'deleting' the partition with the XP setup utility would delete the partition, merely flag it for formatting should the need arise. It's probably redundancy built in by microsoft after all where would alot of people be after accidentally pressing delete the partition and then not being able to restore that partition to a healthy state.
