Where are the admin policy tools?
I am running XP pro and I installed the adminpak from 2003 server. I noticed that I do not have any of the policy tool packs, not even local.
Do I have to enable something to view these tools?

you can see it in Control Panel / Administrative tools or go to start / Run type in MMC / Enter then click on Consol / Add/remove snap in / click on Add button then select the component you want in , just high light it and click add,, all the policies are in the Snap in Tool box.

two thing to remember:
- you need Windows XP SP1 (and another patch that I don't recall) in order to run the Admin pack running properly.
- You will need to be part Windows 2003 Domain in order to have it working properly.

I have the lastest updates.
I understand that if I am not part of a domain I will not be able to use some of the tools, but I should at least have them in the line up, which I dont.

adminpak.mis
The tool you are looking for is called "adminpak.msi". You should be able to download it from Microsoft. At least that's where I got mine. However, it will not install these features in your Administrative Tools in your Control Panel. They will be placed in your Start Menu.
If you have installed this package and you can't see them in your Start Menu. Either it didn't install properly or you will need to check the box for "Show Administrative Tools" in your menu properties.

Group Policy Snap-in
Yes, you can edit the "Goup Policys" in XP Pro. Are you logged in as "Administrator"? If you installed it and you don't see the tools in your start menu, nor when you add/remove snap-ins in your MMC Console. You have something wrong with your system. Check you path statements. Is it not pointing to your system files? That's the only time I've seen certain snap-ins missing. When you are in your MMC Concole and your trying to add the "Group Policy" object. Is it listed? Does it just show a folder instead of the acctuall icon?

Yes I am the admin
No it is not in the list at all for adding a snap-in to the mmc.
I think that there is something wrong with my system, but it has been this way since I installed XP.
What can i do to fix it? I tried sys restore and that didn't work.
is there any other way minus a complete reinstall?

Path Statment
I'm almost 100% it's your path statement. Add the following to the front of your path statement:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;
If you don't know how to get there:
1. Right Click "My Computer", click on "Properties"
2. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
3. Click on the "Environment Variables" button.
4. Under the "System Variables" area. Scroll down until you see the variable "Path" and double click on it.
5. In the "Variable value:", goto the begining of the path and past %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%; there.
6. Click "Ok"
7. Click "Ok"
8. Click "Ok" again and reboot.

It will do..
This will make sure that it's pointing to the correct system directories. If you want to see what it does type it in your run command. It will open the browser to that directory. Same if you typed: %userprofile%
This will explorer to your Profile on the local system.
