Burning issues...still

Hi, this is my first serious attempt at doing anything remotely fun on a computer.
I have a new computer and tried burning a CD last night. I kept on getting a "LIST EXCEEDS(0) ERROR"
The CD was right out of the wrapper, and I tried using PINNACLE software and PRASSI adCD software, both gave the same error.
Right after the error, the drive I assigned as the burning drive froze, a reboot was the only way to get the drive to open!!
Can anyone help?
p.s. I tried lowering the burn speed as well, down to 1x without any luck.

This is what I have:

Biostar M7NCD board
AMD 2500+XP
Windows XP for professionals
I/O Magic DVD+-RW/CD-RW drive
Ricoh CD-RW drive
512 Megs of ram
120 gig hard drive
NVIDIA 5200 agp video card (256 megs ram)
Prassi abCD burning software
Pinnacle burning software

I am running an antivirus program in the background and I am continuously connected/downloading from the net...could this be the problem?

KNOWN_CRIMINAL>>>

Thank you known_criminal, for all your information. I found you very helpful in regards to a whole wack of other problems I was having...found your solutions very helpful (from software stuff).
I did check how much I was putting on a disc, fixed that problem but now...there is this when I try burning an audio CD...

ERROR-10@SECTOR432-COMMAND:2A SENSE:FFASC:00 ASCQ:02

What in tarnation does all that mean? Hope you can help again!

looks like your adding to big of a file size to the cd, what kind of files are you trying to burn, did you check the size of the files, add them up to see if they exceed the limit of the cd?
