Computer standby

I don't seem to be able to get my computer to go on standby. I can designate the power button to make the computer go to standby and that works ok, but it want go to standby automatically. Would someone tell me what the power scheme is suppose to be to allow the computer to go to standby. I have it set now for home/office desk, 20 mins on the monitor (the monitor will go to standby) and 20 mins on the computer. I am running Sygate firewall and Norton anti virus, XP home and Maxtor 40 GB HDD

Thanks

if you have a cable or dsl modem you may have to go into the bios and disable the wake on lan setting. also might want to see how the bios aspi functions are setup.
