Arrgh Popups

I can NOT get rid of these popups. Popup blocker doesn't prevent them, AdAware won't get rid of them, and neither will SpyBot.

They appear to be coming from:
http://www.lazychestnuts.net/

What can I do? Am I doomed to live with these rascals?

Just to keep you all updated, it was winpup.exe.

Once I deleted it, the problem was solved.

Hello Everyone,

I have the same problem with the popups. They seem to come from www.lazychestnuts.net but when I tried to access their web site, all I could see was an empty screen with 2 lines of text:

United Kingdom
81.132.9.217

Referring to the 2 earlier posts on finding and deleting a file called winpup.exe, I could not find this file anywhere on my notebook.

Is there a solution to removing these popups once and for all?

Thank you very much indeed.

Sincerely,
Bob

Where do you reside and who is your ISP?

Got it figured to the UK & BT as your ISP.

81.132.9.217 is a BT IP Number.

Try running Spybot to search out scumware.

I am also betting that ayer3maniac is resident in the USA and accesses the Internet through a Proxy Server.

Hello Loose,

Ran Spybot. The problem still persists.

When you go to www.lazychestnuts.net it reads your IP Number and displays the info on the page.

Have you got a 'Popup Stopper' installed on your system?

Hello Loose,

Nope I do not have a popup stopper.

Is there a solution you can recommend me?

Thanks a lot!

I have tried different 'Popup Stoppers' over the years but they all seemed to need too much user intervention.

I then started to use Mozilla (thanks Beeboy) which has got the most simple 'Popup Stoppers' of them all - no windows open unless they are selected.

I use panicware popup stopper and it works fantastic nothing gets through and it is so easy to use if you are loading a page that you want a pop up like www.dailydraw.com (lottery) you just hold control, as page loads and the pop up works or you can set the popup stopper up with addresses for it to ingnore. although i know the popup blockers that are offered with browsers are good.

http://www.panicware.com/popupstopper.html

if you have KaZaA Lite you can always download it and err try it but remember to buy it if you like it

Talking

I use bt/yahoo same as openworld, anyway as I search so much on Google downloaded their toolbar 2.2, set popup blocker and have no trouble with popups. Give it a try it's free.

Hope this helps.
