ms blaster disaster
Hi,
I've just been removing the ms blaster virus and am now having problems connecting to the net.
I am able to connect but when I try to download emails or view web pages I am told I cannot connect to the server.
Any ideas?
Chris

Yes. But it still doesn't work. I've tried other browsers and they don't work either. Same problems - connects OK but won't display content. Outlook won't download emails either, even when IE not open. Connects OK, authenticates, but won't download anything....
Thanks for your help!

I would call your ISP. If you can connect but not browse, there is something going on there that they should be able to troubleshoot with you.

I don't think my ISP will help as the connection is working fine on this computer (my laptop).
I think a re-install of XP will be my first port of call - just need to find the CD....

Before you do anything else, go here and download Symantecs [Nortons] Removal Tool and run it to be sure you have completely removed the Virus: http://securityresponse.symantec.com...ools.list.html .

If you wanna make sure you have completely removed the blaster download stinger from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
This is a great tool for the most common virus's and blaster is definatly on there. When you have downloaded it (only like 750k) go to preferences and tick scan all files and also click boot sectors. Then run the scan.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I have run both the winsockfix and stinger programs. I did detect a svchosts.exe virus but I still can't get online.
Looking through the error log I seem to have a network address translator error that has been popping up since I have been trying this. Could this be the problem?
Thanks again.

What I would do is to establish a new connection to see if that resolves it. If you are with a large ISP, just use the wizard.
