what did you scan and remove the virus with? if it was a onboard scanner it may not have removed all the viruses. try a online scan to see if you got it all.

have you scanned for spyware?

if both turn up nothing or remove something and the problem persist, do a repair of the operating system with the install disk.

Hardware issues?

If it's not a virus, and it seems you still have this issue after reinstalling and doing a system restore. Sounds like it's a hardware issue of some sort. Here's some ideas:

1. Did you just recently install new hardware or software?
2. Check your Event Viewer for errors. It may have something there.
3. Run "msconfig" in you run command and check out what programs are running at startup.
4. Try running your PC in safemode for a bit to see if the problem continues.
5. Uninstall things you don't need.
6. Delete all your temp files and run defrag.

Hope this helps.

- No new hardware... my computer was fine up until recently...
- Possibly software, but I figure a format would fix that? :S

2. Check your Event Viewer for errors. It may have something there.
- Did... nothing unusual...

3. Run "msconfig" in you run command and check out what programs are running at startup.
- Yep... nothing unusual...

4. Try running your PC in safemode for a bit to see if the problem continues.
- Good idea, will try that...

5. Uninstall things you don't need.
- Another good idea, again, woulda thought a format would fix that :P

6. Delete all your temp files and run defrag.
- See above...

I've also got no viruses... and no spyware...

Thanks for the help, will play around some more...

- Daniel

Hey... I've just been running the net with my windows firewall enabled... and i haven't come across my usual problem...

Have you guys tried this?

I know it's not a permanent solution, as I've been running my internet for a year without my firewall on... but I'd like to know how you guyz go...

FireWall

Glad to hear that you found a solution. Microsofts firewall works good. I haven't had any problems like I've had with Zone Alarms free one. With Zone Alarm I couldn't connect to Administrative shares and for some reason it was messing up my DNS and I couldn't join my home domain. After uninstalling it, all my problems went away. If you want a great system for a Firewall. Check out www.smoothwall.org. It's free. You run it on another PC the next inline from your Cable/DNS router. My budy has it running on a 166MHZ. It's basically a linux box. Check it out.
