Question File types...

Hello everybody...

I have a problem with my file type associations... (zip)

Normally when you download a zip-file, Windows XP/Internet Explorer asks you if you want to open the file, save the file,etc...

Underneath that option there is a checkbox that says something like 'Notify me before opening this type of file' (or something like that... I have the Dutch version...).

Well, some idiot (probably me) checked that box, and now, everytime I download a zip file, he downloads it in my temporary folder and then opens the zip with winzip...

This really bugs me because I just want to save the zip-files on my harddisk, I don't want to open every single one of them, extract them and so on...

I already tried to fix this myself but... alas...

Does anybody how to reverse this?

Thanx a lot!

Strange... that is.... very strange....

Maybe I should reboot my PC ... rebooting stinks... hey, you never know....

(I don't think it will change anything though...)

So if you or anybody else still has ideas...

Thanx!

SYMPTOMS
When you download a file from the Internet, you may not be prompted for the location in which to save the file that you are downloading. Instead, the file may be opened.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you clear the Always ask before opening this type of file check box when you download a file. If you do this, files of this type are automatically placed in the Temporary Internet Files folder and opened by the program that is associated with the file type.

RESOLUTION
If you want to be prompted for a download location for the file type, follow these steps:

1. Double-click My Computer.
2. On the View menu, click Folder Options.
3. On the File Types tab, click the appropriate file type in the Registered File Types box.
4. Click Edit.
5. Click to select the Confirm Open After Download check box.
6. Click OK, and then click OK.

It worked!!

Thanx known_criminal!

It worked...

I was there earlier already... but I guess I didn't find what I was looking for.. ; - )

Small remark though (for others using this thread).

Step 4. 'Click Edit', should be: 'Click advanced'

(There is an edit-button, but is brings you to a dialog box to select the program you want to open the file with)

Thanx again!
