print queue stuck
I am having a problem printing via Ethernet to an HP Laserjet 4m plus printer.
My machine is running Windows XP Pro with a network connection through a Realtek (ethernet) chip on my motherboard. The PC is connected to a 5-port network hub, as is the printer, router (cable modem connected to router) and a Mac G4.
Both the Mac and the PC can see the router and communicate via broadband internet.
The G4 can print to the printer, but the PC cannot.
Items can be sent to the printer queue, but they just sit there. Printing is not paused. After going through the Windows troubleshooting and not fixing the problem, I have a feeling that the problem might be the port selection on the printer.
At one point, I discovered that the printer was selecting the port "LPT1" (wrong port) , so I changed it to "LanNetwork" which has the TCP/IP protocol. The printer problem persists. I also tried adding a new port with TCP/IP but wasn't sure which network device to select; I chose "generic network device" but that port didn't work either.
