Version

Has anyone tried to check the similarities in the file versions of ntdll.dll? From all of the forums that I have read, it seems that everyone effected with the problem has version 5.1.2600.1217 If anyone is getting this error with a different version, please let me know.

Exclamation

Hey folks,

I think I got a problem related to ntdll.dll too. However, it's not IE but is my Flight Simulator 2004

I'm using Dell Dimension 9150:
P-D 2.8G (I forgot the model #)
1G Samsung DDR2
Nvidia 6800
Creative Audigy 2ZS
Seagate 160G SATA

I tried to format my computer several ten times but it still happen. And seems to be only have this error on my FS. My FS will shut down without any error report so i don't know what is going on there. Althought sometime it will happen on my Lock-On with like an error on memory(something like 0x0000E, I forgot) or some sort.

Thanks!!!

fault in module ntdll.dll

I am experiencing similar problems and receive the event error:

Event ID 1000
Faulting application winword.exe, version 11.0.6359.0, stamp 40c8b025, fault in module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, stamp 411096b4, debug? 0, fault address 0x000106c3.

But, my problem is in MS Word when adding or editing a hyperlink. Frustrating. Word either shuts down with no warning or I get a Microsoft problem message to send MS a report. MS has no information on the error.

I have reinstalled MS Office with no solution. I can go to another similar laptop and have no problem with hyperlinks in Word.

It does seem virus related to me. Hopefully one of us can find an answer. I'll run some antivirus and anti spyware programs and see what happens.

Hi NateT, I have been having these application errors with version 5.1.2600.2180 in 3 different programs. The faulting module in each case is ntdll.dll, v. above, with different fault addresses for each - ieexplore, bootvis and odyssey. It doesn't happen every time I use these programs but often enough to be annoying. Any ideas??

The reference in the above post to ieexplore should in fact be "iexplore".
(Sorry but I found no edit button for the post even though page says I can.)

Windows Explorer problem

To all interested

Looking for others with experienced problems with explorer
i found a solution entered regarding eliminating Internet xplorer from DEP by way of the panel of control and system route.

I tried that and it indeed worked perfectly..

But I can add this expeience.

after two days of working correctly I returned to the same place where I eliminated explorer and now returned to the original setting where the was a problem.

The problem no longer arose.. it was as if separating Windows Explorer from DEB, using it and then returning it to DEB contol... eliminated whatever was the problem.

I am wondering if Microsoft was in any way to bleme in its clandenstine way, for I noticed that after trying to download unsuccesfully the new Internet Explorer the problem appeared.

Hey Guys,

The MS site says this kind of error is related to add-ons manage by the new IE7. I made progress with this by deactivating the Windows XML active-x add-on in IE7.

Click tools, manage add-ons, then highlight the Windows XML active-x controller in the list then click on the disable button. The problems for me stoppe right away without rebooting.

I am experiencing a similar problem and at least in one case no AMD is involved.
In Windows Explorer if I select too many files and press Ctrl-C or right click to Properties, explorer.exe crashes and ntdll.dll seems involved in that.

The problem is affecting a Compaq Computer with Pentium CPU and Win XP SP2, a DELL Laptop with Win XP SP2 and my home computer (no brand name at hand) with Win2000 SP4.

I have tried the solutions suggested here but they did not work.

What I found particularly annoying is that this problem is quite common, but Windows is totally absconding.
Their support page mention the problem and a hotfix for it:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824136/
unfortunately the hotfix is not available for download.

I just saved 70 Eurobucks!!
I could fix the problem without buying the hotfix from Microsoft.

I was struggling with this bug since weeks, but, thanks to information collected through this and other forums, I managed to find out a solution.

In my case, the offending software was ddcrypt.

Inspecting the drwatson output, I could in fact find that not only ntdll.dll was involved in the crash, but also ddcrypt.dll.
I uninstalled ddcrypt and things are now working fine.

I would like to give some suggestions to people having the ntdll.dll Windows Explorer problem, but are unable to solve it with any of the solutions listed on this forum.

1) inspect the drwatson output

2) a similar problems affects also Internet Explorer and is often due to plugins. In a similar way the problem on Windows Explorer can also be caused by "plugins".
On my computer when I right click on a file, I don't get only Windows options like "Open", "Preference", "Print", "New", but also options from third part programs like "Add to Winzip", "Scan with Antivirus", "Encrypt by ddcrypt", and so on.
One should check if removing any of the programs mentioned by right clicking, the program disappears.

Smile a soloution maybe an answer

after long and frustrating hours last night i think i have tracked this fault down.

it sems that this fault does not refer to bad memory or bad hardware neither does it mean a bad coroupt operationg system, well it could be but its highly unlikely especially if you have just reinstalled which is when it happens the most.

i have tried to trace this back troough the visual studio debug and well its does never refer to any one consigned memory location and memory hardware is not that screwed as it loads windows fine so how can it be.

anyway to the crunch the error is almost always caused by a 3rd party software. this means it could be a activex a plugin a program just about any kind of softwware that interacts directly with your shell or desktop system.

the best way of tracking this fault down is to backtrack and really serch the debug script try and find out which program is causing it try uninstalling the last five programs you installeduntil the error stops. after it does you will recive refrenced error messages after you have uninstalled the badly programmed application.

applications that have operators in them which have not been assigned a int get assigned junk then when a program calls that memory space it finds junk hence the errors. this is due to bad programing of 3rd party maybe even microsoft in my case it was nero backup lol.

there is a way in which you can flush the virtual memory and reset this then it might get rid of the error too.

anyway this is what i have found in regard to explorer.exe faulting especially with shell32.dll and ntdll.dll

ntdll Errors

At last! There seem to be some other uses having the same problems as I. The "ntdll" error appears during bootup time, memory error, memory access denied. I noticed another post above referencing AMD. I have Intel 945G, 3.4 GHz, 4 GB memory: AMD probably not a culprit. There are enough different variables that more specifics are likely not needed. This kind of looks like a virus(?) and on my system happens sporadically and infrequently. It has started within the last month. I'm using Bitdefender 10, updates daily with full scan every 2-3 days. Spybot run every 2-3 days also.
