Windows XP CD Key is in the registry
The Windows XP CD Key is required to reinstall the operating system.
If you have lost it, you can retrieve it from the Windows registry:
1) Open the Registry Editor
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion.
3) Find ProductId. The CD Key is digits 6 thought 15.
ENJOY!!!!

This is wrong. The CD key cannot possibly be digits 6 through 15 not only because that is only 10 digits (a CD key is 25 characters), but the product ID is all numbers, and a CD key is alphanumeric.
Azn - you really need to stop posting bad advise on these boards.

Much better than attempting to find a lost CD Key; is to have a 'Gold Key' (I think they use that term, I don't know) which doesn't need the version to be registered.

You're right azn, everyone is learning, which is why it is important NOT to give out bad advice, because then they are NOT learning, they're screwing up because someone gave them bad advice. You've had some good posts on here, but you've also had some bad ones. I suggest you not post unless you have firsthand knowledge that the answer you're giving is correct. I think most of the "advisors" on these boards do this already, myself included. I don't go spounting off bad info just so I sound like I know something I don't.
kalthorn - I don't think these exist. What you're thinking of is the "Corporate" or "Enterprise" installation of XP, which still requires a valid Product Key, but the installation itself is configured so that it does not need to be activated.

I also have magic jellybean among my utilities. Aida32 will also give you your product key.

Ah - I prefer the term 'Gold-Key'; but yes - A Key which doesn't need Product Activation. I can't believe how useful it is!

The key you are looking for is an alphanumeric 25 character code which is constructed in 5 character blocks separated by a dash. If your computer was manufactured by one of the companies [i.e., Dell, Gateway, Sony, HP, etc,] they are required by Microsoft to place that Key on a label attached to the computer case [usually on the outside]. SO LOOK. I believe both Magic Jellybean and also AIDA32 will reveal it to you. It is in the Registry somewhere.
