Win32 and old programs

Okay I knwo that this is a old topic, but I just had to ask. Is there away I can get my old programs to work in Win XP Pro. Now I am not going to change my OS, also I would rather get this to work then get the idiotic 'not a valid Win32 application' message. There has to be a away to do this, and I want the help.

Note tech wise I am not much of a techie, hardware I can do blindfolded, like working on a motherboard; but when it comes to OS or software I'll admit to being a bit clueless.

if it is a installed program, open the folder, right click every item in it one at a time, select properties, then compatibility, set compatibility mode for windows 95, apply and move on to the next. this works ok, sometimes you have a little trouble ending the programs, i still use some of my old dos apps on xp. even Castle Wolfinstien, cant get enough of that gun pointing the way and all those crappy brick walls. sometimes i got to play gorillas and throw bannanas at buildings.
