Windows XP to Win98 se

I have 2 x hard disk for my laptop. Both are configured for XP Pro. I want to set one up for Windows 98se in order to run a number of applications including a digi radio software prog called Wavefinder. Long story cut short, there are issues with Wavefinder Vs XP and I have been unable to resolve them to date. Patience running thin !!! it is much easier to assign one hard disk to Win98 se and then swop out the hard disks on the laptop as needed. The disk I want to format is currently set up as NTFS and I am wondering if it needs to be FAT32 ? If so, how do I carry out the formatting of this hard disk....ie.....I have tried to format C: it but it doesnt want to know ? Is there a HDD utility available which will zero fill the drive sectors, something similar to the HDD utility I used to run for my Win98se hard disk ?? Any assistance would be gratefully received....thankyou world

I would assume that you don't have the two drives in your laptop at the same time ! am I correct ?

Insert harddrive that you want win98 on. Insert a Win98 bootable floppy. From command line: 'fdisk /mbr'
then, fdisk again, chosing option '3'. Delete all partitions. Now fdisk one more time, setting a primary partition. Insert your bootable win98 cd, reboot system. Install win98.

Note that you may have an issue at boot when you swap OS's that the bios may pop a warning that things have changed. Never attempted this one. You may want to consider getting Partition Magic 8.0 Pro, Partitioning your HD in 2 pieces, then Installing win98 on the new partition and making the machine dual bootable.

As to the issue of the weird characters on the screen.....I just dont know....unfortunately, now that I have formatted the drive, I am not in a position to replicate the fault, however, I wanna thank you for your first class technical assistance......great job

I've been running both XP and Win 98 SE on the same laptop hard drive by using partitions - this allows you to share directories and files across both OSs without having to change out the HDDs.
All you do is decide which OS you want to run when you boot up.
If you boot up in XP you can run all your XP-oriented software.
If you need to run something that only works in SE you select SE on boot-up.
If you want to switch from one to the other, you do a Restart and select the OS you want.
Slightly less cumbersome than a HDD changeout.
If you're interested in doing this I'll be happy to tell you how.

thanks very much............that is exactly what I would like to be able to do.......................it would save having to change out the hard disk and risk damaging the multipin connectors on the ribbon cable........I would appreciate your instructions as to how you can do it.....if you like, you can email me at:
