xp and 2k

Due to a recent job change I am going to have a lot more free time and thought I would try out some games. Where I used to work we used win2k and never had any problems with it. I am curious if it is a good choice for home/gaming use or if I should get xp instead. I am fairly familiar with 2k, but have never tried games on it, I have never used xp. Thanks all

I read about a study that showed all Windows are pretty much equal for gaming.

As for compatibility, anything you had working on 2000 will work on XP, 99.9% of the time.

Thanks for the info. I also asked this question on the 2k forum and was told that I really shouldn't have much problem learning XP from 2k if I do go that route. I'm still debating but I appreciate the replies all

You should google for information as you will get a lot of different advice because so many people play so many different games everyone has there own oppinions for gaming on the OS.
Here is something worth reading about 2000 and gaming.

Personaly if you are going to buy an OS and are going to use it a lot for gaming then i would choose XP that way you kill 2 birds with 1 stone, you will ahve the latest and
XP is more stable for gaming than 2000.
Remember my oppinion may well vary from others..

just my opinion and i dont want to spend days explaining why, xp is the better game system, it supports much more then 2k in this respect. 2k is a great office system, but does not have the compatibility settings xp has which is essential to play some older games, and newer games play better on it because they are designed to. i have played games on 2k, i like xp better. this will more then likely turn into a ford/chevy debate , i really dont like debates so that was my 2 cents.

Thanks again for the replies everyone,(and for the link scouse) it is appreciated. I have looked at some other sites/forums and it seems that for gaming XP isn't a bad way to go. I've never had any problems with 2k, but I've never tried games on it either. Anyway, thanks again for the replies, I think I'll give XP a shot and see how I like it.

My bad, sorry 'bout that.

Here you are.

Remember though I said pretty much equal, not completely :-P

On a side note though from my personal experiences they are indeed equal for gaming.
Performance in other areas and stability, however, are an entirely different story... (curse Me!)
