Angry Uninstalling Software

Windows XP - UGH!! I don't think I like XP at all. Ok here is my problem. One of my software programs has just quit working. I do not know what caused it but I would like to uninstall it and then reinstall it but I cannot do it successfully. I have gone through the uninstall and also tried to just reinstall it but neither works. Anyone ever run into this problem with windows xp before or have any suggestions? Please help, I am desperate!

When uninstalling a program, it's best to use the programs uninstaller. Second best (or if the program doesn't have an uninstaller) is to go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Many of your programs will be listed here. If you can't uninstall with the programs uninstaller and the program isn't listed in Add/Remove, then your stuck with deleting files (starting with C: > Program Files). You can also go to Search and look for any reference to your program.

There are also 3rd party Uninstallers, but most require that you have their Uninstaller program installed and running before you install the program that you later want to uninstall.

Yeah I did go through the add/remove programs to uninstall it but it would not allow me to do that. Thank you for your help though, I will go through the programs files and start deleting that way. Thanks again.

Oh I am sorry, the name of the program is Quickbooks Pro 2003. I use it in both offices, my main office (with no problems) uses windows 98. My secondary office, I use windows XP. I am not familiar with xp at all as it is still new to me, But in time I will get it all figured out, with all your help of course. Thanks again

if you just delete the folders you will have to clean the registry, either yourself, or with a regcleaner program.

Oh I see, how do I go about doing that? Or is that something I might want to avoid. Do you have any other ideas?

According to Intuit, QuickBooks should be in Add/Remove Programs. Maybe it's listed under another name (Intuit?). Also, make sure that the program doesn't have any features running in the background or you won't be able to uninstall. Check your Task Manager (Processes).

(from Intuit)
How do I uninstall QuickBooks? Answer: To uninstall QuickBooks from your computer:

Note: Navigation or button names may vary depending on your version of Microsoft® Windows®. Please refer to the Windows Help files for specific information.
1. Exit QuickBooks.
2. From the Microsoft® Windows® taskbar, click the Start button, choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
4. From the list of programs, select the QuickBooks version you want to uninstall.
5. Click the Add/Remove button.
6. Click Yes if you receive a message asking to confirm removal of the program.

Note: If you plan to reinstall an upgrade version of QuickBooks, an earlier version of QuickBooks for Windows needs to be already installed on the computer, as upgrade versions cannot be installed as "stand-alone" programs.

I really appreciate all your help given. I have gone into the add/remove programs and Quickbooks is listed there. When prompted I do click on ok to remove but I receive an error (I wish I was at that computer to tell you what the error is but I am in the main office right now) It starts to partially uninstall but will not finish before I get the error message.

Try using Microsofts installer cleanup utility whatever files were left over or however you did it this will take care of it.

Would the error happen to be something like: "Can't find Install.log"?

Reinstall the programme again then go back to the control panel you should then be able to delete it..Run the reg cleaner i have linked you to after you ahve reinstalled and deleted the programme.

Also the best reg cleaner on the market is reg supreme by Jv16 it is stand alone reg cleaner better than the one in his power tools, he does a free 30 day trial believe me it is great and gets more than any other cleaner on the market..To buy it it is only $12 after 30 days worth every cent..

if you want to use it then go here
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4001.html download it and do a deep scan, do not do the deepest scan just the deep for now, also it auto backs up everything so nothing can go wrong

Regarding Kal_el's suggestion: Windows Installer Clean Up

Since it is from Microsoft, I thought it was a good thing. However, today I tried a System Restore and this message came up.

Restoration Incomplete
Your computer cannot be restored to:
Monday, March 08, 2004
Installed Windows Installer Clean Up
No changes have been made to your computer.

I don't like the fact that it limited my restore points. I cannot restore to any point before 3-8. What's with that?
