Removing dual boot files
This is a little complicated...
Nevertheless this is what happened:
A little while ago I had to format a hard drive of mine on PC 1. In order to do this I dismounted the drive and put it on PC 2 to format, so far so good. As my machines are not in the same location I thought that I would gain some time by installing Win XP (Pro) on the newly formated hard drive. Of course in the meantime it has become quite clear to me that this was a stupid thing to do (those of you who know what I am talking about can gauge how stupid this was), but me not being a specialist...
Anyway in the end I dismounted the hard drive to put it back on PC 2 and it works just fine. The thing is that since then I have a double boot on PC 1 that gives me the choice between XP Pro and XP Pro when I start the machine, of course I usually choose XP Pro... Unfortunately the PC does not like it very much and got fairly slow in the process.
So my question is how can I remove this "ghost" dual boot and the files associated with it, are there any utilities available to do that? Is it sufficient to modify the boot.ini file? I guess not.
In the hope that my explanations were clear enough I hope that someone out there will be able to help or at least to provide some useful hints.
Exasperatly yours,
