Help on folders

I have just had to replace my motherboard so while I was at it I bought a new hard drive. Something bigger and quicker than the old one. The intention being that this will be the primary drive and my existing one will be a backup and junk drive. Everything has gone well, XP on the new drive then EEK. One of the folders in my original documents with all our financial info on was protected (so the kids couldn't sniff). I can't access it now. Is ther any way at all of getting into this file.

This is a bit desparate so any help would be good

Thanks

Can you see it but not open or is it hidden from your view, do you get an error message?

And this file is now on your secondary drive?

If the original xp is still on the secondary drive with the protected file then boot to that drive, the easiest way would be unplug the primary drive and set the secondary as the primary and boot into xp. All your settings will still be there so you should be able to log into you original account.

Once logged in you can then take the protection off the protected file and set things back up the way they were by hooking the new primary back up and changing the old drive back to the secondary.

Now when you log into xp using the new version of xp you should be able to access the file on the secondary drive. Once you have access you can then apply the protection and you will have access to the new protected file from the new xp.

All this is assuming that you protected it using NTFS security.
