Powerpoint won't paste

Six months ago (same computer, everything same) I was able to go out on internet and copy pics and then come back to powerpoint presentation and paste. Well now I am only able to get about 1 out of every 20 that I try. VERY frustrating. Any ideas? THANKS! (By the way I have run Norton and McAfee for viruses and nothing) I have also tried to go to Microsoft and download updates. It says that it downloads but wont install.
