Angry Explorer.exe using 99% of my cpu capacity

I have a problem with my computer.

CAUSE:

When i am browsing "My computer" I have about 10-20 clicks (open/close any folder) before the "My computer"-program (the folder viewer) gets locked up.

EFFECT:

There is nothing i can do to get it going again. Only way to get out of the "My computer"-lockup is to close it down using the taskmanager.

In the Taskmanager in the "Explorer.exe" process is using 99% of the CPU power continuisly. But it is only the "My computer"program that is affected by it. The rest of the programs that i might have on is running as usuall.

OTHER NOTABLE THINGS:

When i close the "My computer"-program in the taskmanager, the Explorer.exe process cease to exist for a while. The start-Menue also dissapears. This only for about 5 seconds. Then i can open a new "my computer"-window....and i get another 10-20 clicks =(.

My computer is an Inspiron Dell Laptop.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE TRIED:

1. I have reinstalled Windows XP severall times.

2. Virus checked it a million times.

3. Changed HD so there is nothing wrong with it.

4. All new drivers and so on......(no new Video driver since there are none to the laptop version).

SYSTEM INFO:

Windows XP Swedish Service patch 1 Home edition V. 2002
Inspiron 5150 Dell laptop
Mobile 3.06 Ghz P4 Chipset.
512 Mb ram
60 Gb HD
Radeon pro 9000

Virus program

Norton antivirus/firewall (i have also tried without)

TNX for your help Mikael s

Please tell me if additional information is needed.

all your drivers are on that page, the chipset drivers and video should fix you up. you have a intel chipset, if this does not fix the situation, go to the intel web-site and download the intel application accelerator.

I am Back....

And i am sorry to say that it still doesn't work.

I installed the newest Bios, newest Chipset Driver and the newest Videocard driver.

And the problem remains =(.

The uppgrade of the Chipset gave me another itch on the head.
According to the info on the Chipset Driver. It was a Hyper Threading Upgrade Driver for Mobile P4 chipsets.

But there are no information about this in my bios or anywhere else. Where if anywhere can i find this (the original Q is more important).

Answer to Vomit. I have already Formated and reinstalled XP severall times, it doesnt work =(((.

Have you thought of trying another browser?

Try Avant browser

Also a List of browsers to choose from

It may fix your problem your problem may actually be with IE itself.

Your MOUSE would not cause explorer to freeze up. The problem may be with your machine. You may want to call Dell and find out if it's still under warranty to send it in and have them look at it.

See if any of these help .

There's a bug in XP that can cause your CPU to go to 100% and other operations (such as copying files, network connections or streaming audio/video) to suffer degraded performance when you right click a file or folder. Want to know why it happens and how you can work around it? See KB article 819101 at
http://www.winxpnews.com/rd/rd.cfm?i...CO-Right_Click
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=819101

=========================================

Try performing an advanced clean-boot of XP to isolate the problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=316434
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=310353

================================

There are four services associated with lsass.exe and most users (especially home
users) do not need any of them running.

They are:
IPSEC services
Net Logon
NT LM Security Support Provider
Protected Storage

Type "services.msc" in run , press Enter and disable them.

I suggest you visit the following URL for complete info:

=================================

Disable Indexing Services

Indexing services is a small program that hogs HUGE amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexing and updates lists of the files on your system, so you can search for them quickly, but it's completley unnessesary.

To disable it, go to the Control Panel and click Add/Remove Programs. Click the Add/Remove Window Components. Simply unclick the Indexing services and click next!
