Angry XP Drops Network Connection & Causes Loads of Collisions

Right, bit of a long one this. PC is a custom built XP2200+, 1024Gb DDR PC2700, GeForce 4 Ti4600, Abit AT7 MAX2 & an SB Audigy (in a lovelly cooler master case) installed with the cursed Windows XP Professional (a legal copy). Now whenever I go to copy data from PC to server I get s**t loads of collisions and eventually after a few minutes I get Unable to copy - the network name is no longer available. I've tried 2 new NIC's, latest drivers, re-installing XP, updating XP with SP1 and other critical updates, a different hub, a different switch & a crossover cable. Finally I installed Win2k and Red Hat 8 which didn't have any problems with copies and caused no collisions. It's definately an XP problem/bug does anyone now how to fix it? Microsoft don't!

You mention X-over - is this nic to nic???? I suspect config somewhere down the line cos your PC hardware is good spec and you seem to have tried most possible solutions. This error is like trying to read a bad CD.... I doubt it is XP though cos I have no problems in a similar environment.... Virus.... Bad card.... Hmmm!!!

But in the end, if Win2k and RedHat works then why not dump XP and use the MORE reliable RH??? I am sure if you had such an issue with RH they would know how to fix it!!!

Best of luck...
