Trying to set date format & get an error

In Windows XP, My date on some documents shows as 04-03-15, it is supposed to show as 03-15-04. I go to Regional and Language Options in Control Panel and then click on Customize, and select the date tab, and try to set the date format as MM/dd/yy in short date format, I get an error message that reads: "One or more characters you typed in this field are invalid. Try typing different characters."
I even tried selecting one from the drop down list and still get the same error message. Anyone have a solution for this? Thank you.

Under the "Standards and Formats" section, is it set to "English(United States)"?

do you have a time and date manager installed? have you scanned for spyware? you can enter the system bios and set the date there under the standard settings.
how old is the computer or motherboard? it may need a bios update for a glitch with 4 digit dates.

No time & date manager installed. Computer is about 1 yr. old.
I will look in the Bios for date setup, but to my knowledge it is okay. Thanks.

Finally got it fixed. The problem had to do with the users profile. Once I deleted it and logged her back on, creating a new profile, it works fine now.
