xp usually wont boot with a new motherboard or other major hardware change. you will have to repair/reinstall xp to get it to boot. if you dont format at anytime you wont loose your files, will just have to reinstall a few programs and all your windows updates.

To answer snowmonkey. The video died on the motherboard. Several AGP & a PCI video card didn't cause video to return. Yes the hard drive spind up but I can't see anything.

known_criminal,
So, I would boot with the installation disc and tell install to repair Windows XP?
