My computer freezes

1) Version of XP
Windows XP pro SP1

2) Hardware setup
p3 650@733mhz, 256mb ram, geforce 5200fx, 5.1soundcard

3) What exactly happened leading up to the problem
90% of the times when i try to download a file through IE the whole computer freezes and I have to turn it off by pressing the powerbutton. The same thing happens when i try to watch an MPEG file, or if I make a playlist in Cyberlink PowerDVD and it switches the played file.

4) Exact error messages:
None, it just freezes.

5) Any antivirus, firewall software you are running
Running firewall through a hardware firewall, Im using Panda Antivirus Titanium v2.05.03.

it would not be easy to do diagnostic on a computer like that ,, I would start with over clocking,, why are you running it @733NHZ if it is pIII 650 ? have you tried to change it back to original frequency ? have you checked for over heating ? do you have the latest driver for you Video card ? check these possible causes of problem and get back to us

cheers

I would agree that it is a CPU issue. 90% of the time when a computer is freezing up like that it's either CPU or memory, and since you're overclocking a poor little P3, I would guess either you oughtn't be overclocking it or it's already fried.

Ive lowered the mhz to the original, my videocard drivers are from the cd that came with the card, and i bought the card for maybe 2months ago. The strange thing is that I didnt have this problem before, with the same card and the same OS. I had another problem then, but i cant remember what.
Before I had this OS, I had windows2000, but that also started acting really strange.

Change the drivers of your card with the latest update, double check your cooling. But if you had been o/c then you may of damaged your processor and as soon as you start putting any real strain on it it is clapping out on you.

It also may be your memory.
