Windows Xp & Windows 98

Hi,
My specs are
K7 1400 DDR Thunderbird
512 DDR RAM
20 GIG 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE
80 GIG 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE
SONY DVD DRIVE
LITE ON CR-REWRITER
64MB GEFORCE 2 MX
SOUND BLASTER PCI 1024 CREATIVE
WINDOWS 98 & WINDOWS XP PRO

I desperately want Windows XP to be my only operating system. To begin with I have tryed first of all to install XP from boot up. I successfully entered the process by exploring the XP CD through NT Folder. The setup started the install process, but stated it could not locate cdrom.ini. Heeeelllppp. iT SAID YOU COULD CONTIUNE THOUGH. i DID BUT IT SEEMD NOTHING WAS HAPPENING FOR AGES, BUT MY HARD DRIVE LIGHT WAS ON AT ALL TIMES. I QUIT THIS BY RESTARTING. So then I had a another idea. Install 98 on 20GIG, and then install XP through 98 on full installation on 80GIG and then format 20 GIG. Both installed fine. I then restarted with my boot up disk in and then typed c: format. Which it formated successfully. I then restarted, but oh no it says invalid system disk, please insert. It seems to be looking for the boot up disk. So Put 98 back on to my 20 gig again, so the option screen comes up on boot asking which one I would like to use. XP or 98. 98 seems to not work at all, once in. But XP is fine. Is there any way to enable it to just load up XP straight away without this selection option of either system. Perhaps formating C drive through XP, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS.
Also XP sometimes just restarts it self from knowwhere. Sometimes just crossing say a screen, will cuase it to restrat. When it loads back up it says your system has recovered from a serious error.
CAN ANYONE HELP.

Interesting problem KO1. Have you tried browsing though the CD manually and looking for the cdrom.ini

The other way is to go into Start > Find > Files & Folders then type "cdrom.ini" (with quotes), then where it says Look In select your CD-ROM drive from that list.

Have you only got an XP Upgrade CD? or the full thing? If you have the full thing then I wouldn't bother fannying around trying to upgrade. Back all your data onto the 80Gb drive and then install XP from fresh on the 20Gb. I've managed 1 successful upgrade from 98-XP and that was only because there were no ther programs installed! Fighting a loosing battle

Try this then in DOS:

D:\find "cdrom.ini"

Then press enter. Note where D:\ is your CD-ROM drive.

I can locate it on cd rom, but during the windows xp installation through dos, or boot up, whatever you call it, it acceses files on xp install but can not access cdrom.ini. It only lets you state what drive it is, no exploration is available.
