Hey! New member, major problem, ntsckrnl.exe missing?

In short, everytime I boot it it says that "ntsckrnl.exe is missing or corrupt, please replace the file". Then, it reboots! What do I do? I'm not the most computer literate person on the planet, so please help!

Go to a working xp machine and copy the missing file to a floppy disk, located in
c:\windows\system32 on the working machine.
Then get a boot disk and use it boot up your machine.
Then insert the disk that has the file you just copied from the working machine.
Then copy the missing file from the floppy drive to the hard drive.
The command to do this is:
a:
copy ntoskrnl.exe c:\windows\system32\

One thing you can try, if you have a corrupted or missing system file, is the System File Checker (it scans all protected system files). You'll need your installation CD in case you're asked for it.

Start > Run, type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes.

For future reference

A good website to locate missing files is:http://www.webattack.com

Just go to the website and click on "missing files"

This is a fantastic site for missing .dll files

I have had a faulty ntoskrnl.exe cause my computer to lock up a few times. The following has got me back in business. May help with other things.
I have put a folder on my C: drive (krnl), and copied a good ntoskrnl.exe to it.
Go to http://www.mirrors.org/archived_sof...iles/xpboot.exe
Download xpboot, put an empty Floppy Disk in drive and Click xpboot. Name it something you will remember. Start with the disk in the drive. It changes the letter on your CD drives, and shows you what they are on the first screen. Write them down so you remember. (Mine are R & S). (Enter) At A:\> prompt type, (space after copy, space after .exe).
copy C:\krnl\ntoskrnl.exe C:\windows\system32
(Enter)
If asked to overtype, type y, (Enter). Do Ctrl, Alt, Delete to Boot.
If you can get someone to Burn ntoskrnl.exe from Windows\system32 to a CD, put it in the drive and you can substitute your new CD drive letter for the first C:, and leave off krnl\.
Hope this helps someone. Sure helps me.
