Install Programs To Data Drive

When installing new programs, you are usally prompted to install to C:\Program Files\New Directory.

Is there a was to tell XP to default to D:\Program Files\New Directory???

if you have for example a D: drive and your os is on C: most software will want to install to C: or the whatever letter you have for your operating system. being this is part of third party software, you will just have select the install path everytime when you install new programs.

i have seen install managers at shareware/freeware sites that say they do it, but i have not tried one, or intend to try one. just more stuff loading in the startup that i really dont need.

That's not a function of Windows XP, that is a function of applications you install after word,, yes the common place it Program File but if you do a custome install of every software that you install in your computer then you can point it to D:\ drive ,,, Some application won't allow you to install of differnt drive but most of them do.
