"My Computer" Folder Screwy

Hello all, I hope you can help a newbie like me.


XP Home Ed.
Pent. 4, 1.8 Gig
768 mb ram
Nvidia G Force 3 Ti 200
My system is a IBM Netvista 6823
I have Nortons Internet Security and Anti Virus 2004 running

I seem to have done something to my pc that it does not like. When I try to open up the icon for "My Computer" the window opens but no files are shown and a little flashlight comes up. It sits like this for a few minutes and then it pops up like normal. I also noticed that all of my pull down menus are affected as well. I've tried doing a system restore and a configsafe restore but no dice. I believe this first started after I installed an older version of a program that I had recently put on my system. (Timex Data Link Software) I'm not sure why but this older version may have screwed something up. I have since uninstalled both the old and new versions of the software but the damage is done. I looked through the forums but I couldn't find anything specific to this problem. Oh and I have checked for virus, worms and spyware. My drivers are up to date as well as the bios. I hope someone on this fantastic web site can help me. Thanks for your time and sorry if I left out any facts you need to help me.

Don't quote me on this....... but I have a gut feeling, very strong one actually, that your system needs tuning, probably your registry...... what the flashlight is doing is that it is going through your entire hardrive before displaying your folders. I've read somewhere about that before, just can't remember. Hope this little information could help you further along your solution.
