Can't Access Registry

I had a problem which is whereby whenever you double-click on a folder, the search window comes up instead of the contents of the folder. I found the solution and it requires some editing on the registry. However, i realised that i can't access the registry and hence unable to solve the problem.

Whenever i click on the registry icon, the registry window pops up, but when i proceed to do the editing, it disappears. I tried this a few more times, and it disappears faster every time.

I then tried using the run format by typing regedit. Similarly, the registry window pops up but before i can even click on it, it disappears. I tried it a few more times with different names like Regedt32, regedit.exe, but the same thing happens.

Is there any way to enable the registry to remain on my screen long enough for me to edit? If not, is there any alternative solution to my first problem which does not require the editing of the registry?

Also, i was logged into my administrative account. Please Help!

as the man said

snowmonkey just told you what he thought...that it sounds like a virus.

he then proceeded to give you info to start with to check this out. he listed over 20 links that cover the spectrum of possibilities based on the info you provided. the problem could be a spyware virus, an adware virus, of one variety or another.

if you have ran a anti virus program and it found nothing, first of all is your virus definition file up to date?

I beleive that most of these spyware and adware programs would not be found by a anti virus only program(?)

An adware virus is more than likely the culprit, from probably some site you visited and clicked on some thing of interest and in a lot of cases unknowing to the user, the adware virus program is installed.

follow the suggestions offered by snowmonkey, more than likely will fix your problem, and if not, look at the knowledge you will gain. what have you got to loose?

imho
