Auto Arrange keeps turning on

I don't want my icons to be automaticly arranged. So that is easy, I turn off auto arrange.... but when I reboot my computer, auto arrange is turned on again, and all my icons are not where I want them.

Strangely the icons in my quick launch get re-arranged also.

This happened to me before on my last installation of XP Pro also.

I did a clean install of XP a month or two ago, and this strange behavior only started tonight.

Not sure what is causing it, hopefully somebody here does.. a google search doesn't give me any results.

I don't like auto arrange on, becasue I always put my games on one side of the desktop, and the programs in the order that I use them most on the other side.

Auto arrange automaticly turns on every time I restart windows and messes it all up.

I guess I forgot to list this in the main message, but I wanted to know if anybody has run into the problem of auto arrange turning on automaticly, and how to keep it from doing so.

there is a way to save your desktop settings that may help.

I couldn't locate the program you were talking about for Win XP. I found it for 95-98. But I found a different prog that does the same thing. http://www.softwarium.com/rdwin.html It saves my desktop, but not my quick launch bar... I guess I'm halfway there.
