And the winner is : nightowl007. Disabling SMB on the server security profile has done the trick and it's sorted otut the excessive collisions! Thanks to all those that posted, I'd already tried the excessive collison hotfix disk_contended but a good tip none the less.

Oh and Max Power, thanks, I do use RH for everything other than games, but XP's pretty and I wanna hang on to it
