This may sound crazy, but I need help!
I hope this doesn't come off as being too pathetic or dramatic....
But my boyfriend and I live together and we've been together for almost 5 years and share the same computer, however he's the Administrator and I'm on a secondary account.
Lately his actions have lead me to believe he's been cheating on me, yet I have no proof. However, I think there might be "evidence" in his "MY DOCUMENTS" and "MY PICTURES."
Without me having an administrative account, is there anyway I can gain access to his account and look at his pictures and documents?
Sorry if anyone is offended by my post. I'm just desperate.
I'd greatly appreciate anyone's help.
Thanks.

RE:
I'm not writing this to get your b/f in trouble...but merely to spread the wealth of knowledge I have about computers. I think everybody should be able to navigate around their system painlessly.
Viewing those folders you need depend on which operating system you have, and whether your b/f logs on using "Administrator" or an account he has that is set up with admin rights. If he logs in with "administrator", then there's not much you can do without his password. If he logs on using any account different than "Administrator", and you're using Windows XP, do this:
Open My Computer
Go to the C: drive
Open Documents and Settings
Open the folder with the name he logs in with
Now you'll have access to his "My documents" folder, his desktop, everything. If this doesn't work, you probably don't have any rights above basic user or guest, meaning you'll have to use the old fashioned way and catch him red handed in the act.

RE:
Oh yeah, if you have any friends that know computers or how to build them, you can always have that person physically take your hard drive out and put it in another computer as a secondary drive. That will allow you to view -all- files on the hard drive without needing the admin password.

Thanks, but your first tip didn't work. He must log in as an "Administrator."
When I try to go into his account that way I get the message:
"ACCESS DENIED!"
Anyone else have any suggestions?

my best advise would be talk to your mate, if you start spying on them because you dont trust them there is more wrong then just a suspicion that they are cheating on you. computers have passwords and security for a reason, so people can keep files and not worry that it can be gone through by just whoever wants to look. if we were to post how to do this every 12 year old would be able to do whatever they wanted on the family computer and people who steal laptops and other kinds of computer would be able to use them and have access to the files on it.

I have tried talking to him, but he denies everything. Which is why I posted on this board for help.
If you know how to do it, and you don't feel safe posting it on the board for the general public to read, would you be kind enough to email me? Please let me know.
I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Privacy is privacy. And that includes computers. If and when he finds out you have violated his privacy he will be furious.
And how do we really know what you are after? Perhaps you are trying to crack a school's computer or your boss's.
If you have suspicions, maybe it is time to find someone you can trust. A relationship cannot work without trust - first and foremost. s7p9a2m4, aka, dear abby.

I understand what you're saying, and thanks for your reply.
It's just something I want to know for myself, because my intuition is telling me something is wrong.
I understand your point that I could be trying to "break" into something more important than my boyfriend's picture files or secret love letters, but I vow to you that I'm telling the truth.

If he's not cheating on me (though I'm almost 100% sure he is), I'll feel foolish, yet I'll be more at ease knowing nothing has been going on.
IF I would find out he's been cheating on me, I don't think I'd even mention anything about seeing evidence on the computer (he doesn't need to know that). I'll just tell him I don't think I can trust him, and need to move on (which is easier said than done.)

ok, just wanted to say i aint telling anyone but Krit619 how to do this, it is a one time deal. dont send me your email i will not send you info, i deleted about 50 request when i got here, yours will be next if you send it. i have never give this to anyone and it is doubtful i will again. dont know for sure why i did it this time, i guess i felt bad for them and they seemed honest (for a change). i work on people's computers and have seen some of the most disturbing things on them, like porn(beastiality,kiddie,fetish....) somethings i wish i just had not seen. sometimes i get a computer to boot and a messenger loads and offline messages pop up with "are you there?" "is your wife home?" some of these computers belong to friends of mine, or people i know, i dont tell anyone but it is hard knowing somethings i know about people when i go around them. the thing that still puzzles me is they dont act like they had something like that, guess they figure i didnt see it since i didnt mention it??? remember this, all of you who look into someone else's stuff, you can un-see something once you've seen it. sometimes you really are better off not knowing.

RE
I understand what you're saying, criminal. Having previously worked as a PC Technician before I recieved my masters, I've also seen some pretty raunchy things on other's systems as well. The worse part was when the other technicians would copy the content to our network and burn it from there, then bring it home on a CD. Nasty people, alot of computer geeks are. Anyway, as far as all the others requesting to know how to get into an admin account, you won't get very far asking somebody who knows how. I've found typically that most computer geeks won't divulge information like that to just anybody, so don't try. It really isn't that hard, there are a couple different ways of doing it. If you wanted to know bad enough, you'd be able to figure it out on your own using readily available resources. So yeah.
